Day 33: June 18
Today marks the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, a month of spiritual fine-tuning. With it comes great company, many great foods, and a great fast.
This year the fast extends from shortly after 4 AM until about 8:30 PM. Unfortunately, this is almost all, if not all, of my normal waking hours. Even though I will be fasting during the month of Ramadan, it should be considered a non-factor in my training program. I will wake up earlier or go to sleep later or anything really necessary to ensure that I am still able to adequately train while not putting my body under too much stress. This shouldn't be an issue.
Last year I worked out during Ramadan, although admittedly under a completely different (and easier) training regiment. It worked out great and I still was able to see some sort of progress despite the limitations.
So far, I have set my alarm to wake up at 2:30 AM so that I can make it to the gym and back in time to have a nice breakfast. Today I was a bit sluggish in waking up, so I made it to the gym at around 3:15 AM. Had a nice 5 mile jog where I increased the speed slightly every 4/5 minutes or so. After I finished, I downed as much water as possible before my fast had to begin. It wasn't too bad.
We'll see how fast I can get fasting
