Day 34: June 19
Yesterday we had guests over to share in the first dinner (more like feast) of Ramadan. After we hurriedly broke our 16+ hour fast and slowed down on the face-shoving, we discussed how the first day of Ramadan went.
Generally, everyone spoke of how easy the first day was compared to years past. We each went around and talked about the events of our day. When it was my turn, the first event I spoke about was going to the gym.
My sister was extremely surprised. She hadn't expected me to make it to the gym given fasting, but was proud of my commitment. That statement made me extremely proud of myself. I have been committed to this marathon for 34 days now, but it wasn't until yesterday that I felt any sort of accomplishment.
And then it happened again.
This morning I woke up at 2:30 AM to make it to the gym before the fast begins and as I walked downstairs I was greeted by my mother and cousin. They had stayed up late talking and looked startled by my presence. When they saw the gym bag, they were pleasantly surprised. They instantly commended me on my dedication and wished me the best at the gym.
I went to the gym this morning feeling ecstatic!
Although I am running this marathon for others, I have continued this long because of integrity, a commitment to myself. I am internally dedicated, but for others to notice the dedication is great motivation.
Stay dedicated to your goals, you may just Surprise! Surprise! someone (it might even be you!)
